Bikram Yoga

Today was my first day of Bikram Yoga. If you don’t know what Bikram Yoga is, it’s 26 yoga poses repeated twice in a room heated to about 100°F with about 60% humidity. Each session lasts about 90 minutes. I’m trying to lose the Freshman 15 I gained during college. Plus, I have a wedding to attend in a month. A friend told me how wonderful Bikram Yoga is and suggested I give it a try.

It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. The heat at first was pretty intense, but I got acclimated pretty quickly. I love the heat. The cold is not my friend. In the middle of the first pose, which is the breathing exercise, I was already beginning to drip sweat. How attractive. I know. I am one of the least flexible people I know so I wasn’t able to do many of the poses, but I tried. I admit I felt light-headed a few times so I just sat out for a few poses and just chugged water. In fact, I think I chugged more water than did yoga poses. It felt like a sauna!

I’m going to head back tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that. You know what? I’m just going to head back everyday until my pass runs out.
