Question:

I keep reading and hearing about BB Cream. What is it exactly? Foundation? Tinted Moisturizer?

I’m not expert on BB Cream, but this is what I know:

BB Cream is short for Blemish Balm Cream. I’ve also seen it stand for Beblesh Balm. It has a huge following in Asia and is slowly (and I mean slowly) creeping its way into the US market. BB Cream acts as a foundation/tinted moisturizer, but it’s different from your normal foundation/tinted moisturizer. BB Creams also contain ingredients to help improve skin appearance such as acne, anti-aging, and skin tone.

BB Creams are quite the multi-tasker also. They provide a lot of moisture so you don’t have to apply moisturizer prior. They also contain SPF. Some can even act as a concealer or primer. BB Creams can cut down on the number of products you use and save you money too.

The main downside of BB Creams is the lack of shades. Usually BB Cream brands only make 1-2 shades and they are for light skin tones. Missha (read my review here), however, offers more shades and even makes one for tanned color skin! Also, I’ve read that most BB Creams have a grayish undertone to them and oxidize too.

That’s all I really know. I haven’t had much experience with BB Creams because the majority of shades offered are just too light for me. Have any of you had any experience with BB Creams?
