1. Remove polish and clip nails straight to an eighth of an inch. File in a square with slightly rounded corners.
2. Coat cuticles in oil or cream and soak feet for ten minutes in a large bowl of warm water, warm whole milk, and five drops of olive oil. Scrub the tops and under nails with a soft-bristle brush, rinse, and pat dry.
3. Stroke a pumice stone or foot file over the sole, ball, and sides of each foot.
4. Slather on a rich cream and wrap feet in a damp towel heated in the microwave at 50 percent power for 90 seconds. Rest for ten minutes.
5. Wipe cream off nails with a cotton swab dipped in remover and wedge a foam separator between toes.
6. Use a damp towel or orange wood stick wrapped in cotton to push back the cuticles gently.
7. Apply a basecoat. Wipe brush against the bottle and drag the polish from base to tip. Begin with one stripe on the center of the nail, followed by a stripe on either side.
8. Wait two minutes between coats, then paint on two layers of color followed by a topcoat. Let polish dry for at least one hour before putting on socks or shoes.
9. Erase any mistakes from skin with an orangewood stick or a cotton swab dipped in remover.
