Marie Louise Creme a-VC Facial Moisturizer ($109) A rich blend of esthetic elements including alpha-arbutin and stable Vitamin C derivatives. Enhanced by highly refined vitamins, this cream yields superior moisturizing results. Smooth and sensuous, it envelops skin’s surface with a veil of moisture leading to plumper, firmer skin. When used with Moistraiser α-VC, the skin’s natural vitality is enriched, and when used as a facial masque, its intense penetration leads to younger, more radiant-looking skin.
My Thoughts:
Ring the church bells and alert the town elders! I have found the almost perfect moisturizer for winter! It’s the Marie Louise Creme a-VC Facial Moisturizer. The only thing keeping the Creme a-VC from being perfect? The hefty price tag. Ignore the price tag and you will agree the facial moisturizer is indeed the perfect remedy to dry skin.
I don’t know about you, but I loathe winter because the coldness wreaks havoc on my skin. Yes, it does get cold in California contrary to many beliefs. My skin gets super dry, the skin around my nose starts to peel and crack, my skin turns dull, and I have to bust out the thick facial moisturizer that always leaves my face feeling heavy and greasy. Enter Marie Louise’s Creme a-VC to save the day! The Creme a-VC is a rich facial moisturizer that will leave your face feeling moisturized and so soft without the heavy, greasy feeling that usually accompanies rich facial moisturizers. Do you know what that means? It means all skin types can use the Creme a-VC! Also, within a couple of days of using the facial moisturizer, you’ll notice your skin is no longer dead and dull looking. Instead, your complexion will be bright with a youthful glow. And unlike other rich facial moisturizers, the Creme a-VC absorbs quickly into your skin. Still not convinced it’s the perfect moisturizer for winter? Well, a little goes a long way so the jar will be lasting you for quite awhile. Plus, it doubles as a facial mask! Two products for the price of one!
If you’re not on a budget or can afford the Marie Louise Creme a-VC Facial Moisturizer, do try it this up coming winter. You won’t regret it. Now if only Marie Louise made a creme a-VC hand and body moisturizer I would be set for the winter.

Philosophy Hope In A Jar SPF 15 ($18-45) This daily moisturizer provides remarkable sun protection, defending skin from a broad spectrum of UVA and UVB radiation. A moisture-rich, multi-function formulation, it nourishes skin with antioxidants that fight wrinkles and neutralize the effects of pollution. Hope In Jar also provides mild exfoliation properties while the ingredient beta glucan adds a healthy, rosy glow.
My Thoughts:
Avoid this at all costs. I did not like Philosophy’s Hope In A Jar SPF 15. It was so greasy and took forever and a day to absorb. The moisturizer just sits on your face. Also, the consistency and texture of the moisturizer is on the strange side. It reminds me of cottage cheese. It’s very clumpy. Also over time, I noticed the moisturizer begin to separate. Besides the weird texture, it has a very strong unpleasant smell. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it doesn’t smell good. Instead of leaving my face with a healthy glow, it left it shiny and greasy looking. Philosophy’s Hope In A Jar SPF 15 is an over hyped product.

Shiseido Pureness Matifying Moisturizer Oil-Free ($32)
A lightweight moisturizer, with oil-absorbing powder, that promotes a smooth, shine-free finish.
This pH-balanced, texture-perfecting essential helps reduce surface shine as it provides exceptional hydration to skin. It protects the skin’s natural moisture balance with the Shiseido-exclusive Hydro-Balancing Complex. This mattifying must-have is ideal for oily, blemish-prone, and combination skin.
My Thoughts:
This is my go-to facial moisturizer when my face gets oily which is basically starting from late spring to early fall. It’s a light weight slightly watery facial moisturizer that does a great job of keeping my face from getting super oily shiny. It doesn’t keep my face completely matte all day, but it does cut down on my blotting to once a day in the afternoon. I normally have to blot at least twice throughout the day if I don’t use the Shiseido Matifying Moisturizer. The moisturizer doesn’t clog my pores or cause any breakouts. It feels very light and gets absorbed quickly leaving my face feeling so soft and smooth. My face feels so soft I can’t stop touching it! The one thing I don’t like about the moisturizer is the smell. I noticed an alcohol smell, but it quickly fades away within a minute. The price is high, but 1-2 pumps is all you need. A bottle has lasted me nearly a year with daily use.

Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion ($18) Skin MD Natural is a shielding lotion, a very special type of lotion helping the skin restore its integrity, enhance its protective functions so that the skin is able to heal naturally and regain its youthful appearance. Skin MD Natural works by bonding with cells of the skin’s outermost layer to form what works as an invisible shield. This layer of protection prevents environmental irritants and pollutants from penetrating the skin, while sealing in the skin’s own natural oils and moisture, helping resolve the dry skin condition. Skin MD Natural uses only the finest natural ingredients, and is focused on urging the skin to be active, and to use its own moisture to effectively heal itself. It is not oily or sticky, doesn’t sit on top of your skin leaving a greasy residue on everything you touch, it doesn’t rub or wash off easily, is hypoallergenic, fragrance, colorant and paraben free and dermatology tested.
My Thoughts:
I’ve been using Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion for nearly a year. I was first introduced to it when my work started carrying the line. The customers that would come in and see the display would always ask me if it worked or not. Embarrassed, I would tell them I didn’t know. I know. What a great sales person I am. I just hate recommending products I don’t know much about or don’t believe in. Not knowing much about Skin MD and the constant questions from customers made me try Skin MD. Thank goodness I did because I fell in love with it.
Skin MD Natural Shielding Lotion is a light, thin (almost watery) lotion. I suffer from dry skin, especially during the winter. It’s really weird because it doesn’t get really cold in California during the winter and yet I have dry skin. For a thin lotion, Skin MD is so moisturizing. It is also quickly absorbed into the skin. So, no waiting around for the lotion to be absorb before you get dressed/ready. It’s a pricey bottle of lotion, but a little goes a long way. A pea sized drop is all I need to moisturize both my arms. Less than a quarter sized drop is all I need to moisturize my whole body (I’m 5’5). The moisturizing effects lasted the whole day for me. I can’t say it’s my favorite lotion because I’m not a fan of the thin, almost watery consistency. I prefer thicker lotions for traveling purposes.

Aveda Outer Peace Acne Relief Lotion ($40) is part of the Aveda Outer Peace line. It helps clear blemishes—and keep oil under control—while shrinking the look of pores. Balances moisture, so skin’s not overdry or shiny. This lotion contains salicylic acid but it’s not drying like other salicylic acid products. It’s pricey, but a little goes a long.
