From beauty advice and hair secrets to how to shop vintage or find the perfect T-shirt, Lauren Conrad Style unlocks the mysteries of being effortlessly chic. With Lauren’s guidance, you’ll look and feel stylish every day.

My Thoughts:

Lauren Conrad Style is an 11 chapter, 230 page how-to book. Lauren covers all kinds of topics regarding style from head to toe. She covers topics like how to shop, how to style a piece of clothing to make it look different every time, how to pack, and the basic pieces everybody should have. She even includes beauty and hair chapters!

I’ve been on the fence about whether I should purchase the book. I’ve heard and read mixed reviews, but I’ve been a fan of Lauren’s since the Laguna Beach days. I finally gave in when I was able to get the book for half the retail price. I didn’t find the book entirely helpful. A lot of the info she presented I already knew. What I really like about the book is the photos. I’m a sucker for photos. Her book is full of pretty photos! Every page has photos. Of course the photos are of her, but still….I also like that Lauren doesn’t push or mention a certain brand or product. It allows the reader to work with what they have and can afford.

Overall, the book is an easy read. I was able to finish it under an hour. I thought the book was very personable and relateable.  She includes little bits of info about her likes and dislikes and personal experiences and mistakes. The book is for the type of person who likes simple, clean looks. It’s also a fun book to have and to pull out for inspirations.

Check out photos from the hair and makeup chapters!

The Makeup Mandate, an e-book,  is written by Cassandra Rae Ferguson. Cassandra is a makeup artist based in Sydney, Australia. She has worked with many well known Australian photographers, designers, and stylists. Cassandra has gained experience by studying and working all over Australia, and now, she would like to share her knowledge with you!

The Makeup Mandate is the perfect book for budding makeup artists or those who just want to learn more about the art and techniques of makeup. The 276 page e-book is filled with step-by-step instructions, diagrams, illustrations, tips and tricks, and great useful information.

The book is easy to follow and comprehensible. There are 22 chapters that break down the basics of makeup. Cassandra starts the book off  introducing the different types of tools, what they are used for, and what to look for. She then explains the different type of products for the face, eyes, lips, and cheeks. Cassandra also explains when each type of product should be used, how to use them, and how long products usually last. The book ends with nearly 100 pages of step-by-step instructions on how to create different looks. She shows you how to create a whole range of looks. Everything from natural to classy to bronzed beauty to bridal. There are so many looks you are bound to find one perfect for you. I won’t describe the whole book to you, because there should be some surprises!

What I like about the book is that she features a range of ethnicity and ages. She even has a chapter on makeup for men! Also, she uses simple words to explain and teach you about makeup. I’ve read a lot of how-to books and Cassandra’s The Makeup Mandate is one of the easiest to understand and follow. I recommend this book for everybody and anybody who wants to learn about makeup.
