shiseido-dual-balancing-foundation1Shiseido Dual Balancing Foundation SPF 17 PA++ ($37.50) A long-lasting, oil-free liquid foundation that responds to skin’s specific needs. Increases moisture in dry areas and minimizes shine for a semi-matte finish and medium coverage. Formulated with Optimal Balance Network, which includes the exclusive ingredient complex of Hyaluronic Acid and Hydro-Wrap Vitalizing DE Complex to promote ideal moisture levels in skin’s dry areas. Contains Prismatic Nano-Powder to increase luminosity and conceal pores. Glides on smoothly and stays crease-free. Recommended for normal and combination skin.

My Thoughts:

This was actually my first Shiseido foundation. It was recommened to me when I was dealing with breakouts by a Shiseido SA. It blends very easily and has a natural finish. It’s my favorite liquid foundation. I wish it came with a pump so I wouldn’t have to pour out the foundation. It has never caused me to breakout and you don’t need a lot to cover your face. I have yet to find a liquid foundation that better suites me than this. Until that day arrives, I will keep using this.

Philosophy The Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas SPF 15 Foundation Review

I initially loved The Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas SPF 15 foundation ($35), but as time passed I began noticing the powdery finish it left and that was a mjaor turn-off. It didn’t seem to blend into my skin, but rather sit on the surface of my skin. I did like the light feeling, and the quick, easy application. I just did not care for the unnatural, powdery finish. The coverage is also sheer and not buildable. If you tried to layer it on for coverage, then you will definitly be left looking like you covered your face with powder. I loved the cute little jar-like case it came in, but I didn’t like the sponge puff. I didn’t like having to constantly buy the replacements from Philosophy ($3 for 3), because I couldn’t find sponges like those elsewhere.

Shu Uemura Water Perfect Smoothing Water-In Fluid Foundation Review

Share

During my hunt for my perfect foundation, I decided to give Shu Uemura foundations a try. I wanted a natural, light to medium coverage liquid foundation. I got the Water Perfect Smoothing Water-In Fluid Foundation ($42) in color 775. Shu Uemura uses a numbering system to name their foundation colors. The first number is the amount of yellow/red. The higher the number, the more yellow it contains. The lower the number, the more red it contains. The second number is the lightness and darkness. The higher the number, the lighter it is. The lower the number, the darker it is. The third number is the warmth/coolness. The higher the number, the warmer the tone. The lower the number, the cooler the tone.

I really liked the pump (easy and hygenic access to foundation) and the simple, sleek design of the bottle. It provided a smooth, easy application. The color was a perfect match too! That was really all I liked about the foundation. I found the foundation to be too sheer. Sheer like a tinted moisturizer. Also, as the day progressed, I noticed my face getting shinier and shinier. I even set the foundation with powder and used blotting sheets, but my face was still shiny. It also oxidized too. It probably had to do with the fact it was in the middle of summer when I gave the foundation a try. I don’t know if it would’ve worked better during the winter when my face is less oily. Maybe I will give it another try in the future, but I for sure will try Shu Uemura’s other foundations. I just love their sleek, simple designs and the fact that their foundation colors match my difficult-to-match yellow skintone!

Chanel Teint Innocence Compact Foundation Review

Share

I really liked the Chanel Teint Innocence Compact Foundation ($56). It is a spf 10 creme foundation that provided a natural, dewy, luminous complexion. Because it is a creme foundation, it provided more of a medium to heavy coverage depending how much you layered on. The only reason I stopped using it was because I could not find a shade that suited my yellow undertones. I found most of the shades for Chanel Teint Innocence was more suited for pink undertones. If Chanel provides shades with yellow undertones, I surely will start using this foundation again. It was almost the perfect creme foundation.

Shiseido Perfect Smoothing Foundation SPF 15 Review

Share

My all time favorite foundation is Shiseido Perfect Smoothing Foundation SPF 15. This foundation goes on so softly and smoothly. It provides the most beautiful, natural finish. Many times I find when you use a powder foundation, you are left with a powdery finish to your look and accentuated dry patches. With the Shiseido Perfect Smoothing Foundation, it evens out your skin tone and doesn’t leave a powdery finish. It appears to melt into your skin! During the fall and winter, my skin is lighter than it is during spring and summer, so I use the shade O40.  During the spring and summer, when my skin is darker than it is during fall and winter, I use the darker shade O60.

If you have Asian skin tones like me, I highly recommend Shiseido. Whatever your skin’s undertone is (pink, yellow, beige, ivory, etc), Shiseido will have a foundation shade for you. Shiesiedo has 3 categories of foundation colors: O,B, and I. Shades that are “O” are generally for people with yellow undertones. Shades that are “B” are generally for people with pink/beige undertones. Shades that are “I” are generally for people with an ivory undertone. The best part about this foundation is it doesn’t oxidize! Oxidation occurs when your foundation changes color when it mixes with the oil from your skin. Ever notice your foundation getting darker or “orangey” as the day progressed?

When you buy Shiseido compacts, you have to buy the case ($9) and powder ($30) separately. It may seem like a downside, but if you think about it, you will not end up with a collection of empty plastic compacts. Instead, when you use up the powder, you pop out the empty powder case and pop in the new one. Every new powder comes with a new sponge. Typically, this foundation will last me an average of 4 months if used daily.
