Some frequently asked questions (FAQ):

Who runs your blog?

  • Me. I am the creator, editor, coder/programmer, designer, and face behind Audrey Dao – Confessions of a Beautyholic.
  • Family and friends. They have been very encouraging and supportive. They sometimes help take photos and also help me buy products otherwise I would’ve gone broke a long, long time ago!
  • Readers like you! Without you guys, there would be no blog. Your comments, visits, and participation is what keeps this blog moving.

How and why did you start this blog?

I’ve actually been blogging for nearly 10 years. I started out on Geocities then moved to Live Journal. From Live Journal, I moved onto Xanga. From Xanga, I moved to Blogspot. From Blogspot, I moved here.

I officially launched audreydao.com in March of 2008 as an online journal. That didn’t last long. Instead, I soon found myself confessing and sharing about all the beauty products I splurged on and saved money on. In February of 2009, I turned my online journal into Audrey Dao – Confessions of a Beautyholic. It became a place for me to keep track of all my beauty product purchases. I repeatedly unknowingly purchased products I had already owned and never remembered whether I liked a product or not. Don’t you hate it when that happens? From there, it has slowly morphed into what it is today:  a blog featuring lots of beauty product reviews, beauty information, giveaways, tutorials, and deals and sales.

Do you design and make your own headers/banners for your different series,  giveaways, and such? If you do, how?

I do design and make my own headers/banners. The only one I didn’t design was the one for Beauty Blog Link Love. I use photoshop to create the headers/banners.

What blogging platform do you use? Did you design your layout? How do you know how to code?

The blogging platform I use is WordPress. I didn’t design the layout template. Instead, I used a template made by BytesForAll called Atahualpa as the skeleton. I then changed and added some codes and designed a bit to give it the look and feel I wanted.

I really only know the basics when it comes to coding, but I learned from a lot of reading and years of practice. I’ve been designing and tweaking layouts since my Xanga days. It also helped a bit that I took a Computer Science AP class when I was high school, even though we spent about 90% of the time playing computer games. A little exposure is better than no exposure at all.

What camera do you use?

I use 2 different cameras. I use the Canon Powershot sd780 (point and shoot) and the Canon EOS 20D (dslr) with the standard kit lens.

How do you know so much about makeup?

Truthfully, I don’t. It’s all trial and error and experimenting. I also watch other people and learn from them. Remember, practice makes perfect!

Where do you buy all your beauty products?

All the products I use are very easy to find. I buy them at drugstores (CVS, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid), specialty stores (Sephora, Ulta, and the brand’s stores), beauty counters at department stores (Macy’s, Nordstrom, etc), Target, and Wal-Mart. I always provide a link along with the cost in USD.

Will you ever do YouTube videos/tutorials?

Not really. I’m too much on the shy and quiet side to put myself out there.

Why don’t you post pictures of your hauls?

I’ve never really felt comfortable displaying all the products I buy and receive.  I guess my way of posting hauls is through my product reviews.
